Enable file sharing across different subnets on Windows 7 firewall

STEP 1

Add new subnet example 192.168.32.0/24 for file sharing

Control Panel > System and Security > Windows Firewall > Advanced Settings and select the Inbound Rules > File and Printer Sharing (SMB-In)

STEP 2

Choose the profile that your network is in (Private, Public, Domain).

Double-click (or right-click > Properties) > Scope > Remote IP address > These IP addresses: > Add your new subnet address

Troubleshooting:

Before making any changes to Windows firewall, ensure that physical network is working.
Turn off Windows 7 firewall to confirm you have connectivity before tightening.
