Adding desktop shortcuts using Group Policy Preferences

Create a GPO and link to desired OU. For my case Organizational Unit NewUsers

Edit Policy

User Configuration > Preferences > Windows Settings > Shortcuts

Name: Google.com

Target type: URL

Location: Desktop

Target URL: http://www.google.com

Go to Common Tab and check “Remove this item when it is no longer applied”

Great if you wish to remove this shortcut when applied GPO is deleted.
Also removes this shortcut if the user falls out of this linked OU.

Ensure that Authenticated Users have Read Permissions under Delegation

Go to client computer and run gpupdate /force
